Statistics work for Mr Lawrence for Monday 8th July

Apologies - I thought I had managed to post this yesterday morning but now realise that something went wrong and you had no work set while I was out of school. Here is what you need to get done for Friday's lesson.

Here is the 'using the sign test' sheet which was the first statistics homework I set - make sure this is done (don't worry about the last two questions).

Here is the 'choosing a statistical test' flowchart which you need to learn (for your statistics test on Monday 15th July).

Have a go at this 'significant or not significant?' sheet.

Here is a 'four more tests to do' sheet once you have finished that.

You also need to produce a short write-up for each of the experiments that we have done. Your write up should look like a couple of sides (handwritten) or one side typed and include the following:

• Title and date
• Aim of the investigation
• Null and alternative hypotheses (operationalised)
• Procedure – very brief outline (3-5 lines)
• Results table
• Justification of statistical test
• Level of significance chosen
• Working for test
• Explanation of level of significance reached and conclusion

The questions we have addressed in our recent lessons are:

Is it easier to locate a face in a crowd with eyes looking at you than with eyes looking to the side?

Is there a difference between the verbal reasoning skills of male and female students?

Are your judgements of how hard you have worked and your intelligence related to how well you think you have done in your exams?
